Escape Macaulay House!
The year is 1846 and Reverend William Macaulay has fallen behind in paying his servants. Payments are so delayed, the servants are beginning to get desperate. A stash of jewelry and precious metals is rumoured to be hidden somewhere in the house – your help is needed to solve a series of clues and puzzles to find it.
Escape Macaulay House will re-open with regular hours in April of 2020. From November to February it will be open by appointment for groups containing no fewer than three people, dependent on staff availability. If you are interested in making a booking, please contact Jessica Chase at email@example.com or 613-476-2148 ext. 2524.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is an escape room?
It’s a giant puzzle. Players must find and use clues to solve riddles and puzzles and unlock a series of locks.
How long does it take?
You get an hour. We suggest you work with your teammates to solve the puzzles and keep an eye on the clock!
Can I play the game in French?
Right now, the game is only available in English. But we’re working on having it available in French!
How do I get tickets?
Visit this link!
Is the room accessible?
If you require accommodation, please call ahead at 613.476.2148 x 2526. The Escape Room experience can be rearranged to take place entirely in the summer kitchen of Macaulay House, which is accessible. However, please be aware that the toilet, located at the top of the stairs, is inaccessible.
Will we be locked in the room?
No. You can leave at any time, but please realize that leaving the room for anything other than a trip to the bathroom will end the game.
Will it be scary?
No – our game is family friendly. Children can play the game, so long as they’re working with an adult.
What if we get stuck?
There will be a servant on hand – yes, a servant! – to help with hints if you need them.
Can my kids play?
Kids are welcome! We’ve had groups of kids as young as 10 play the game with an adult and win!
How many people can play?
Given the size of the room, we cap the number of players at 6.
If we are a small group, or only two, will we have to play the game with people we don’t know?
For now, the ticketing software does not allow us to close an event until all the tickets are sold – so there is a chance that you could end up playing with others. However, if you’d like to be sure that it’s just your small group playing alone, please contact us at 613-476-2148 x. 2524.
What should we wear?
Please dress warmly in the winter months! Macaulay House is heated – but it’s also an old house, so if you’re prone to feeling the cold, please layer up! If you’re visiting in the summer, know that we keep it authentic: there is no air conditioning!
Do you take walk-ins?
In winter and early spring months, we’re only open by appointment, so we highly recommend making a booking in advance. In summer, we still recommend reservations – especially in the evening – so that you’re not disappointed.
Can we take pictures inside the room?
No. You’re in a Victorian home and the game transports you to a Victorian time, when phones and cameras would have weighed a ton or only available to the elite. No phones or cameras allowed!
Are the rooms dark?
Do you use strobe light effects?
What is your cancellation policy?
At present, we use a ticketing service called TicketScene, which does not permit cancellations.
What happens if we show up late?
Groups arriving 10 minutes or more after the start of their game time will see their playing time reduced.
Is the Escape Room story real?
