Matron Fine Beer
A modern farmhouse brewery expressing County terroir with elegant farmhouse ales, aromatic IPAs & balanced lagers. Matron Fine Beer is a new addition to The County’s craft beer landscape, opening summer 2019 in Bloomfield.
There will be two beers on tap: Janky IPA is aromatic, well balanced and medium bodied with floral and citrus notes — very à la Justin da Silva. It clocks in at a sensible 6%. Yeasayer Lagerbier, meanwhile, is a 4.8% refreshing, no-nonsense helles-inspired lager that’s stealing hearts. We’re smitten. She’s straight forward with a light hop accent and balanced malt character.
Why Matron?
Matron is strong and feminine. At the root of what this word means, we read it as someone who takes care of others, someone who is hospitable. Matron is a shout out those who look-after others, be it by trade or by character. It is about the often under-appreciated roles that these people play in making life easier and often more enjoyable.
It’s also a nod to a simpler time, before industrialization, when brewing was a necessity tied directly to the farmhouse which was a reflection of its time and place; and when the matriarch of the family brewed the beer.
We’re not looking to be everywhere, but want to be accessible. We want to make a finite amount of delicious beer that is special to its community and a reflection of its location. This is not about racing to the top, or the bottom depending on how you look at it, it’s about creating a business that will sustain a quality of life for those people pouring their hearts into it.
