10 Things to Do in March in Prince Edward County ❄️
With Spring just around the corner, March is (hopefully!) your last chance for a good dose of Prince Edward County winter fun. Maple in the County is a crowd favourite and your chance to celebrate The County’s sweetest harvest and tradition. Burn off your sugar buzz by taking in some colourful art or live theatre. Here’s a round-up of 10 things to this March.
Lumberjack Show | Ron and Janice Hubbs’ Sweetwater Cabin
This is the time of year we cross our fingers for warm days and cool nights to get the sap flowing. Maple in the County, taking place March 30-31, is a beloved festival for the whole family. At 12 local sugarbushes, syrup-lovers of all ages can look forward to pancake breakfasts, lumberjack shows, live music, petting zoos, maple-everything and so much more. The local restaurants, breweries, wineries and retailers also jump in on the sweet theme so you can’t go too far without getting sticky. Dress warmly (bonus points if you wear plaid!) and sample all the sweetness that Maple in the County brings.
Learn about wild foods | Hawthorn Herbals
The Earth Herbal Medicine Workshop taking place on March 10 from 2-4pm at the Picton Town Hall, is your chance to hear about how conditions within the body that exhibit the earth element can balance and imbalance. Look forward to a discussion by Hawthorn Herbals on herbal remedies and foods that offer some of the earth element’s characteristics to help restore tone to damaged tissues within the body and remedies that soften and sooth, to help relax the tightened tissues, congestion and sore muscles. This is a ticketed event.

The County is bursting with artistic talent and creativity year-round, and March is no exception. Catch the Spring show at Arts on Main Gallery in Picton for a collection of work from 25 local artists. The show runs from March 9 to May 21. Colour Break is Oeno Gallery’s annual antidote to winter. Guaranteed to chase away the grey of winter, this curated group exhibition of colourful sculptures and paintings includes select Canadian and American artists and runs from Feb 2 – March 31. Free entry to both Colour Break and the Arts on Main Gallery.
Celebrate female chefs, sommeliers, beer babes, visionaries and game-changers in the Prince Edward County community at a one-night-only International Women’s Day celebration at the Drake Devonshire Inn on March 8. Mix and mingle with local food and drink stations, with all proceeds going to Reaching for Rainbows, an after-school program for vulnerable, at-risk girls in Prince Edward County. $15 at the door (cash only).
Women, laughter, pizza, beer, and film presentation of The Craft are all on tap at the Second Annual Period Party at 555 Brewing Co on March 22. Entry Fee is a box of tampons, pads, panty-liners, etc which will be donated to local food banks. There are no rules, no theme, just a bloody good time.
Each full moon, Karlo Estates Winery hosts a plant-based dinner. Taking place on March 20, this is a night to honour the wind moon as is ushers in a new season. Wind Moon dinner is a ticketed event.
Fancy Pancakes! | Bloomfield Public House
If drinking maple syrup straight from the bottle isn’t really your thing, find a stack of (bacon) pancakes and use them as a vehicle for the liquid gold. Pancake Tuesday is March 5! Find a local hotspot for a hearty breakfast and stacks of flapjacks – here’s a few ideas to get your started: Picton Harbour Inn, Waring House, Bailey’s Casual Dining, Island Family Restaurant are all in Picton. Drake Devonshire, Rock n Rogers are in Wellington and Bloomfield Public House, Saylor House can be found in Bloomfield.

On March 17 go green and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at a County watering hole. The Waring House is hosting their annual St. Patty’s Day Party with irish themed food, oyster bar, green beer and live music. The County Canteen is hosting their 2nd annual St. Patty’s Day bash with Irish jams, bluegrass jams and jazzy jams.
As Woody Allen once said, “If you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans…” Making God Laugh – on at the Mount Tabor Playhouse, follows a typical American family over the course of thirty years’ worth of holidays. Show dates are March 2, 3 and 8, 9, 10. This is a ticketed event.
Reverend Macaulay |Escape Room Macaulay House
While Flashback February is tucked away for another year, the Escape Room that launched as part #FF is alive and well this March. The year is 1846 and Reverend William Macaulay has fallen behind in paying his servants. Payments are so delayed, the servants are beginning to get desperate. A stash of jewelry and precious metals is rumoured to be hidden somewhere in the house – your help is needed to solve a series of clues and puzzles to find it. This is a ticketed event.
